Why We Chose the Houghton Mifflin Curriculum:
Houghton Mifflin PRE-K Curriculum
The Houghton Mifflin Curriculum is an in-depth program that provides children with the foundational skills they need to succeed as lifelong learners. This is an age-appropriate hands-on curriculum based on scientific research and aligned with key national and state learning goals and standards. It includes engaging activities, music and manipulatives, encourages independent exploration and hands-on, minds-on learning.

Through this curriculum, your child will be exposed to:

A flexible plan that develops children’s:

Oral Language, Phonological Awareness, Letter Recognition, Listening Comprehension, Vocabulary, Math Skills

Multiple activities that address:
Social Development, Emotional Development, Physical Development, Science, Social Studies, Art

This curriculum is widely used in the Clovis, Fresno and Central Unified School Districts. We align our preschool and Kindergarten programs with local elementary schools to ensure a smooth transition.

Handwriting Without Tears:
Bluff View has implemented a program designed to teach children handwriting. The program, Handwriting Without Tears, is designed to teach the foundations for legibility and to build habits for good handwriting with specific prewriting activities.

The methods:
Use hands-on play with letter shapes in clay, magnets or wood pieces. Reinforce directionality with all capital letters first; they all start at the top. Help little hands develop muscles for better pencil grip.

The Bluff View handwriting program provides structured prewriting hands-on lessons so little ones can develop confidence in forming letters and numbers correctly. Preschool students who develop the automatic habits that produce readable numbers and letters will perform better in subsequent grades.
